Lebanon, PA: Union Canal Tunnel Park is located by 25th Street and Union Canal Road. The peaceful canal is tucked away in the woods and is the oldest tunnel of its kind in the U.S. It is a remnant of the original waterway that transported goods and passengers through the mid-19th Century. President George Washington ceremoniously turned the first shovel to dig this canal but it did not officially open until 1828 due to funding issues. The tunnel has been cleared and restored, with paths taking you through woods, open meadows for bird watching or flying kites, walking trails or sit by the still water. There are seasonal activities such as boat rides through the tunnel to include moonlight boat rides during the summer. There is a variety of musical entertainment, Colonial craft demonstrations and sales, great food to include chicken BBQ dinners and so much more! Groups welcome.
